2022 Honda Passport: Release Date, Hybrid, Redesign, Changes. A recently recycled Passport nameplate takes a position between the compact CR-V and mid-size, three-row Pilot in the Honda’s crossover SUV range. The model arrived for the 2019 model year based on the larger Pilot SUV but with seats for five. The 2020 version hasn’t introduced any meaningful changes but the 2022 Honda Passport should receive several upgrades.
The Passport crossover is a well-balanced mix of the interior utility, good driving dynamics, and value. The model comes also loaded with modern tech and safety features from the entry-level version while the strong V-6 engine provides sufficient power. With this model in the offer, Honda has an alternative to the Ford Edge and Chevy Blazer.
2022 Honda Passport Performance, Efficiency
On the performance front, the 2022 Honda Passport will again use a Honda’s wide-spread 3.5-liter V-6 engine in the mix with the 9-speed automatic transmission. A smooth V-6 engine will deliver 280 hp and torque of 262 pound-feet. Buyers will choose between the front- and all-wheel drive.
The Passport can tow up to 5, 000 pounds with the all-wheel drive. The fuel economy will be around 20 mpg city and 25 highways with the power on front wheels. With all wheels in power, the model should return 19 mpg city and 24 highways.
As for the hybrid version, there is no confirmation from Honda. If this version appears, it should adopt a similar setup as recently introduced CR-V hybrid. The system combines the Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and two electric motors for the net output of 212 hp.
Changes
The Passport is not expected to come with many upgrades for the 2022 season but there should be some changes in the equipment organization with more features available in lower grades. Honda should also introduce some tech and safety upgrades. Some sources indicate an introduction of the hybrid powertrain but Honda hasn’t yet hinted that possibility.
2022 Honda Passport Design
The Honda Passport is a fresh design based on the fast-selling, three-row Pilot SUV and Honda won’t make notable styling or in-cab upgrades until the mid-cycle refresh. The 2022 Honda Passport will return mostly unchanged. There should be new body color options and possibly a special edition version for the new model year.
The Passport shares the platform with the eight-seat Pilot SUV which is 9 inches longer. Two models apply also the same styling language although the Passport looks bulkier and has higher ground clearance.
The five-seat Honda SUV uses a new-style grille and headlights combined with the sculpted front bumper. A creased hood and chiseled profile lines add more dynamics to the model’s appearance.
The rear of the model has a pair of small taillights with C-shaped graphics and shapely tailgate. A well-integrated rear bumper and dual exhaust pipes are also part of its visual identity.
Interior, Equipment
The cabin of the next Passport will also return in the same form while there should be some upgrades related to the infotainment system and safety equipment.
The Passport has a spacious and comfortable cabin with lots of room for passengers and cargo. The cargo limit is almost 78 cubes with the rear seats folded or 41 cubic feet at disposal with the rear seats functional. A good side of the cabin is also multiple, well-designed storage compartments.
At the equipment level, the Passport will come with all features you need available from the base trim including the suite of active safety systems while some premium features will appear in the upper grades.
The base Passport will include tri-zone climate control, seven speakers, keyless entry and ignition, a touchscreen interface, LED headlights, etc. Buyers will also get adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking as the standard equipment.
The leather upholstery and upgraded infotainment system will already be available in the next trim as well as heated front seats and blind-spot monitoring. The top trims will add several premium features such as navigation, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, etc.
2022 Honda Passport Release Date, Price
The 2022 Honda Passport should reach dealers in late 2020. The price corrections should be minimal. The base Passport will again be available from about $32, 000. The price will rise above $40, 000 with most features equipped.
