The eight-seat SUV will introduce more standard features across the whole trim level lineup. Thanks to that, Expedition will become a more competitive model that can rival SUVs from General Motors.
Moreover, exterior and interior redesign are a possibility. Another probable outcome is the hybrid powertrain. Generally, the Expedition is a comfortable and spacious SUV with plenty of power. On the other hand, its engine is thirsty and it is the only engine option at the moment. For that reason, a hybrid powertrain makes even more sense.
Hybrid Powertrain Still Just a Rumor
New 2022 Ford Expedition will use the same 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine. It is the only powertrain choice at the moment. While it produces 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, this engine is quite thirsty. Expedition comes with a standard rear-wheel-drive setup and a 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive is optional and properly equipped Expedition can tow up to 6,600 pounds. However, the big news is the hybrid powertrain.
More precise details are not available. However, Expedition Hybrid is basically official. Reliable reports are writing about Ford’s Kentucky Plant where the Blue Oval makes Super Duty trucks. Expedition and Lincoln Aviator SUVs are produced in the same plant. According to those reports, the plant will work on electrification for all three models, along with the F-150 Hybrid variant.
2022 Expedition Redesign
The all-new 2022 Ford Expedition will get more drastic exterior changes. The Expedition SUV already looks sharp and modern. However, some parts are aging and are looking way too robust. The full-size SUV should arrive with the same dimensions, although a speculated hybrid powertrain could force Blue Oval to provide a new architecture.
Some details are still not available. The 2022 Expedition will surely get a new wheel design. The wheels will be ranged from 17-inch to 22-inch. The front fascia will wear more chrome and some exterior features will be enlarged. The STX package will gain further improvements, including a new grille with five chrome slats.
