2021 Ram ProMaster: Powertrain, Redesign, Price, and Specs. Various reports are already writing about the upcoming 2021 Ram ProMaster model. According to the same reports, this full-size van will gain a lot of high-tech novelties. We expected a lot from the 2020 Geneva Motor Show with plenty of luxury cars and SUVs. Instead, we are now reading and writing about this full-size van. It is what it is, but ProMaster is the first FCA model that will feature new technologies.
The rest of the company’s vehicles will follow the same way in 2021. ProMaster is made for businesses and commercial fleets. It is a very practical model, known for its get-the-job-done character. It offers plenty of storage space and its performance is more than solid. Don’t expect any drastic changes for 2021, except for the latest technology updates.
Powerful V6 Engine Remains
The forthcoming 2021 Ram ProMaster is a very customizable model. You can choose between 18 different wheelbase and roof configurations. There is only one powertrain option and it is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. This gasoline engine is very reliable and it can produce 280 horsepower. It delivers up to 260 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission remains unchanged for 2021.
As for the diesel powertrain, rumors are still present. According to various reports, new ProMaster will get the same 3.0-liter diesel engine that powers Fiat Ducato. Ducato is a model for Europe and we think that the U.S.-spec ProMaster won’t get any sort of diesel. A full-size van remains a front-wheel-drive model.
2021 ProMaster Exterior Facelift
New 2021 Ram ProMaster is available in various body configurations. From a regular minivan version to the full-size cargo van. Still, it is mostly used as an ambulance van. The new-gen model won’t arrive anytime soon, so expect another mid-cycle update. That includes slight modifications to the front fascia only. ProMaster rides on a unibody construction and it is available in 1500, 2500 and 3500 variants.
Sliding doors are one of the latest novelties and this van offers ten different exterior colors. ProMaster has been based on the Fiat Ducato model and they share plenty of similarities. Nothing will change in the future, except the ProMaster City version with slightly more upgrades.
New Technology Features
The highlight of the 2021 Ram ProMaster will be a brand-new digital rearview mirror. It will be optional on all trim levels and it will replace a more traditional rearview mirror. This digital unit comes with a 9.2-inch wide LCD monitor. Thanks to that, FCA enhanced safety and we hope that this feature will prevent accidents. It is the first time in the FCA history that digital rearview mirror has been offered and ProMaster is the first one to wear it.
The video displays in real-time and the driver is getting a picture from the rear-facing camera. Of course, you can turn it off and revert it to a traditional mirror. This novelty, a full-size van will also get more standard equipment. That includes new Crosswind Assist, blind-spot monitors and cross path detection systems. Ambient lights, emergency brake assist, and forward-collision warning are available.
2021 Ram ProMaster Price and Release Date
The sales of the all-new 2021 Ram ProMaster will start later this summer. Given the new technology, this full-size van will most likely get a price increase. That means the price should start at around $32,000.
