2022 Mazda CX-5 Redesign, Specs, Price, & Photos

2022 Mazda CX-5 Redesign, Specs, Price, & Photos. This might be the last edition of the popular crossover. After 2022 Mazda CX-5, the company could end the production. Well, the new generation will bring the new name, and the CX-50 is reportedly replacing the CX-5. This is not confirmed yet, but according to sources, which are very reliable, this outcome is very likely to happen. The nameplate is in the process of registration and Mazda will soon obtain rights.

The CX-5 is a very popular vehicle and it helped Mazda catch up with the class-leading carmakers and their models. Still, frequent improvements are required, especially in the most popular class in the market. The Japanese company drew attention with its SkyActiv engines and a system that combines the best characteristics of diesel and gasoline units. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 could keep an oil burner and we expect it dropped for the CX-50. Engineers are developing an all-electric motor for the upcoming crossover.

Not only that the engine room is interesting to experts and fans, but also the styling. The exterior is eye-catching, especially with the trademark red paint equipped. Inside, all Mazda vehicles are on the verge of being premium models. Still, there is always room for improvement. For example, more space could be left behind rear seats. CX-5 is currently offering sub-par cargo capacity.

The base configuration for the 2022 Mazda CX-5 will remain the same. The company won’t waste too many ideas on the crossover which is going to be replaced. So, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder takes the position under the bonnet. A six-speed auto transmission could be replaced. Still, the CX-5 will be one of the most efficient crossovers in the market with 28 mpg of combined fuel economy. A four-pot unit can also tow quite a bit– 2,000 pounds. The standard setup includes front-wheel drive and AWD is optional.

The same engine and transmission are available at higher trim levels. However, the turbocharged unit brings more of everything. The outputs are 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque and the towing jumps to 3,500 pounds. Still, the company recommends a premium fuel to achieve the best results. Otherwise, the engine will make 227 hp and 310 pound-feet.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 Diesel is one of the most interesting models in the lineup. Still, it is not bringing all the advantages you expect from an oil-burner. Why? As said, the Japanese company and its engineers are combining the best elements of two types of powerplants– diesel units are not high polluters, while the petrol mills return the gas mileage of oil-burners. So, a 2.2-liter turbodiesel will produce 170 hp and 290 lb-ft, at the same time making 27/30 mpg.

CX-50 EV Debuts After 2022 Mazda CX-5

It seems like the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is the last model with this nameplate. The manufacturer is serious about the replacement and the new CX-50 will be an all-electric crossover. Still, engines with internal combustion are not going to be entirely dropped.

The upcoming nameplate will update the look as well. However, there are no further details upon the CX-50. The range should be over 200 miles and larger batteries will probably go up to 300 miles between recharges. The autonomous drive is possible. Mazda already unveiled plans to develop such systems. Until this day, nothing but standard driver aid features are available by this manufacturer.

Unchanged Styling, Same Trim Levels

Since the CX-50 is waiting for the green light, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is not taking any big change. The company redesigned the crossover and its styling will remain modern for a couple of seasons more. There are five trims available for the start of the building. The base one is a sport and it comes with 17-inch wheels, LED lamps, cloth interior, and a 7-inch multimedia touchscreen display.

Touring and Grand Touring are the most popular versions. These will add some cool features, but it won’t increase the price out of range. Leatherette upholstery is inside the cockpit, and other standard equipment is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone air condition system, and extra USB ports for rear seats. Grand Touring uses leather and Bose audio. The moonroof is also added and the exterior highlight is a new set of 19-inch wheels.

The top of the class trim levels are using a turbocharged engine. The power upgrade, the company is also adding the best equipment. The Reserve model will come with heated rear seats and ventilated front buckets. These are the things you will have to purchase optionally even on luxury crossovers.

HUD is also standard. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 Signature is adding navigation, genuine leather, and unique trims. The price for this one goes over $40,000 with upgrades, which is a better offer than to start with the base package of some premium SUV.
