2022 Infiniti QX60 Redesign, Spy Shots, News, and Rumors. It is time for the new generation of the 2022 Infiniti QX60. The mid-size luxury SUV is still competitive in the market, but it needs a huge update. Of all, the latest generation arrived in 2013. The company is not offering a hybrid drivetrain. Rivals are already a step ahead. The interior is aging and the premium model needs the latest features. Even Toyota broke down and decided to install Android Auto.
On the positive side, the QX60 will definitely offer seven seats. We can hear that the company is skipping the updates for the 2020 season and the total focus is on the following year. All Infiniti models will be revisited and upgraded. The lineup could get a new member since some rumors are mentioning the QX70 SUV. One of the reasons why Infiniti is taking a year off is to get more time to develop more hybrid systems. No particular model was mentioned, but we believe the QX60 is the main candidate to get this upgrade.
2022 Infiniti QX60 Engine
Under the hood of the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will remain a reliable V6 unit. The 3.5-liter displacement is delivering the class-leading output of 395 hp. It also adds 270 hp. Front-wheel drive and the CVT are a standard and optional upgrade is AWD. Towing capacity for the base version remains 5,000 pounds.
Still, the QX60 lacks power when we compare it to other premium three-row SUVs. Lexus RX 450h, Acura MDX Sport Hybrid, and Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring are all coming with the hybrid configurations offering 310-320 horsepower. These setups provide better mileage, which offers another option to its fans. Nissan, as the parent company and a leader in this segment, is expected to electrify not only this model, but also Pathfinder, Murano, and possibly Infiniti QX80.
Redesign Based On the Monograph Concept
The Monograph concept draws a lot of attention. The company launched this platform and promised it will underpin its largest SUVs pretty soon. Well, we are getting a large portion of the new architecture with the upcoming QX80. It is the biggest SUV the carmaker has to offer. Still, the smaller brother will also get some pieces of this architecture to get a more muscular look. The concept was not too futuristic and it seemed to be nearly production-ready. We will see if the 2022 Infiniti QX60 is going to use it.
With or without the Monograph platform, the SUV needs an update, exterior, and interior. We can already predict that new paintjobs will refresh the color palette. Currently, the QX60 is offering a total of nine schemes. Most of them will be carried over, and designers will make new colors available for premium options. Currently, half of the palette costs $595.
Interior and the New Infotainment System
Not only that exterior is getting a refresh, but also interior. Again, new colors will make the cabin elegant. Leatherette surfaces are coming with the base models, while upper trims are offering more quality materials. We expect two big updates when speaking of the cabin. Of all, the company needs to update its infotainment system.
The InTouch is old and controls could be simpler. That is exactly what the new generation should bring. The company made it clear the system will arrive in 2020 and the first models with the next-gen InTouch will come as 2022 MY. Part of that update will be Android Auto, while the Apple CarPlay is already available.
The company will also work on the safety system and more space in the third row. The seven-seater currently offers 76 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front row and only 16 cu.ft. behind the rear bench. The middle row could be replaced with captain’s chairs.
2022 Infiniti QX60 vs Acura MDX
Lexus RX is way ahead of all the competition in the mid-size luxury SUV segment. It leaves tow other Japanese premium carmakers to make their own battle. If you want to choose between 2022 Infiniti QX60 and Acura MDX, here is what you have to know. Currently, MDX is newer, but after the update, the QX60 will be more competitive. The new design, inspired by the Monograph concept will be attractive.
On the other hand, Acura is using the same recipe as Lexus– they offer more options. We have the base MDX, hybrid version, and the cool-looking A-Spec model. A two-row version is missing, while the high-performance plug-in hybrid is on the way as Type S model. Infiniti is not offering any alternative to the V6 engine. There is no upgrade package to respond to Lexus F Sport or Acura A-Spec suites.
When Will the QX60 Be Available?
The 2022 Infiniti QX60 will have to keep its price to stay in the same class as its rivals. We believe the new model is not going to cost more than $46,000 at its base form. We will know more about the mid-size SUV when it appears in the third of fourth quarter of 2020.
