2022 Honda HR-V: Photos, Specs, Price, & Redesign. Because of the current situation, the 2022 Honda HR-V will probably come unchanged. Another reason to skip the update is the fresh design dating from 2019 and the upcoming new generation. The HR-V is the smallest unit in the lineup. Some say Honda Element might replace it, or join in the subcompact segment. Well, this is another topic and you can read more about Element’s comeback HERE.
The HR-V is one of the best-selling subcompact crossovers worldwide. We can not expect too much space, but everything is organized neatly, so it improves the impression of a large cabin. Of course, the vehicle needs some upgrades. Unfortunately, we won’t see them on the 2022 Honda HR-V. The gas mileage is above 30 mpg combined. But, the larger CR-V can do 40+ with a hybrid setup. HR-V is not getting such a drivetrain. But, in the future, Honda might make the mini SUV an EV.
2022 Honda HR-V Specs
Under the hood of the 2022 Honda HR-V is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. It is reliable, but the crossover does not offer any additional choice. Nevertheless, the ride can be upgraded with an all-wheel drive. It will boost an off-road performance with extra grip and balance. Power outputs are 140 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. A CVT gearbox is efficient and smooth. It sends power to front wheels by default. The engine doesn’t require premium fuel. On the other hand, an AWD consumes more gas than the standard setup. Outside the US, the crossover is available with a 1.6-liter petrol unit, while the diesel is not an option if you want the HR-V.
Trim Levels, Accessories, Packages
There are no engine choices, but the 2022 Honda HR-V will carry over all the packages. The base model is LX and it comes with 17-inch wheels, small display, and Bluetooth. The entry-level version lacks a lot of safety features we met on higher trims. Honda Sensing becomes available at the EX. Between these two is the HR-V Sport, which upgrades the base offer with larger wheels and smartphone connectivity apps (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). Paddle shifters are also included, and that is why this package is called Sport.
The 2022 Honda HR-V EX is going to offers some of the advanced options. For example, heated front buckets are there, as well as the enhanced audio. The EX looks cool thanks to the power sunroof. The next upgrades coming with the EX-L are leather seats and steering wheel. The best is kept for the Touring model, which is not going to use a front-wheel drive. Navigation is standard and LED lamps to replace ordinary bulbs.
2022 Honda HR-V Expectations
Like every subcompact model, the 2022 Honda HR-V will offer excellent fuel economy. On the other hand, do not expect superb performance and plenty of room inside the cabin. Still, compared to the competition, HR-V is pretty spacious. Also, visibility is good. That is the plus on the safety end, while the lack of base features is a downside of the entry-level model. Sport trim improves drive comfort.
Suspension tuning provides nice steering and maneuvering. There are more than 7 inches of ground clearance, making the crossover a good option for an off-road ride. Still, remember, the HR-V lacks power and size for toughest tasks. Even on the road, the acceleration is far away from impressive. Also, Honda has to do something with the infotainment system. Commands are not so simple and voice recognition needs a lot of improvements.
Hybrid and Electric Models
Subcompact crossovers are already pretty efficient when it comes to gas mileage. The hybrid system would increase the overall weight, making these vehicles slow and sluggish. So, such a change would not result in a more efficient ride. On the other hand, HR-V EV is something different. More electric vehicles will appear in the market and most of them belong to the subcompact crossover segment. Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro, Jaguar I-Pace, BMW iX3, are all possible competitors if Honda decides to go all-electric.
How Much is 2022 Honda HR-V?
Another advantage of the subcompact crossover segment is the starting price of vehicles. The base 2022 Honda HR-V will be available for $21,000. The price could drop under $20,000 if you get some discounts. Still, we recommend you skip the entry-level package and spend $3,000 for Sport or $4,000 for the EX model. Leather upholstery and other upgrades from the EX-L will cost only $1,600 above the EX, while the Touring brings the most from the HR-V offer for $30,000.
