2021 Lexus GX 460 Review, Changes, Price, and Release. Despite the age, the GX is still a pretty serious player on the market and that is for a bunch of good reasons. A decade-old design doesn’t stop this SUV from being pretty much unparalleled in the class when it comes to combining off-road performances, luxury, reliability and overall quality. The demand for it is still at a pretty high level. This also means that the company doesn’t plan to redesign it in the near future either.

2021 Lexus GX 460 Release Date

The 2021 Lexus GX 460 is expected to come without bigger changes, pretty much untouched, as a typical carryover model. Count that the next year will bring a vehicle that features pretty familiar design characteristics, starting from the styling, interior layout and many more. We won’t see changes under the hood either. The 2021 Lexus GX 460 will continue to be one of the thirstiest models around.

2021 Lexus GX 460 Engine

Under the hood, things definitely won’t change. The 2021 Lexus GX 460 is about to carry on with a well-known 4.6-liter V8 unit. In this case, it delivers around 300 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Such amount of power ensures pretty solid acceleration and confident ride. It never feels underpowered, while a big amount of torque ensures pretty good numbers in terms of max towing capacity. It goes around 6.500 pounds. This is one of the most reliable engines in the class.

The engine comes paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth but a little bit slow with downshifts for today’s standards. Still, that’s not the weakest point of this powertrain, not even close. By far, the biggest drawback is fuel economy, which goes around 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway, which is way below average ratings for the class.

2021 Lexus GX 460 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2021 Lexus GX 460 is about to be a typical carryover model. While some reports are suggesting updates for the 2021-year model, the next year definitely won’t bring anything important, in terms of novelties. This SUV features a decade-old design, which heavily relies on the internationally-offered model called Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The two models have a lot of things in common, including dimensions and most mechanics. The body layout is also quite similar, although the GX comes with its own front end, based on Lexus’ aesthetics. Still, we can’t say it completely follows the brand’s newest design language, which would be practically impossible, considering the traditional SUV shape. Still, the grille has a bit of that familiar spindle approach, though not as emphasized as on Lexus crossovers and other passengers cars.

The 2021 Lexus GX 460 will continue to deliver amazing off-road performances and reliability. It will also continue with a cabin design which started to show signs of aging. Compared to most rivals, this cabin looks old. Simply, the dashboard hasn’t been changed much for all these years. A decade is a pretty long period in today’s automotive industry. This also means that you can count on some of the latest tech goodies.

On the other side, the overall level of comfort is pretty high. Of course, the first row is the most comfortable, but the second row is pretty generous in terms of legroom. Typically for the class, the third row is quite tight and it seems best to be left for kids. When it comes to cargo capacity, you can count on 11.6 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, which isn’t too much. Fold down the third row and you get 48 cubic feet. The overall capacity goes around 65 cubic feet, which aren’t the highest ratings in the segment.
